SIERT has forgot to check the SAT OMRs of hundreds of unfortunate students even second time and now not ready to accept the fault , the matter has come to notice after an application was put under RTI ( Right to Information ) Act

SIERT forgets to process the SAT OMR sheets of students 

 SIERT has provided the zerox copy of the OMR sheet of NTSE stage -1 appeared student under right to information (RTI) act, However SIERT HAS SPOILED THE CAREER OF STUDENTS .It seems that SIERT has misplaced the OMRs of these unfortunate students .In a case which has come into notice under RTI , Kushal Babel ( NTSE Roll No. 130103201347) is a brilliant student and was very confident of clearing stage -1 examination ,however he was shocked to see his roll number missing from the list. He used RTI to access his OMR sheet , he and his family ran from pillar to post to get access to OMR sheet and when they finally got the OMR of kushal ,they saw OMR sheet of the students has been tempered with .In order to prove that Kushal is not selected, SIERT has changed 13 right bubbles to wrong one and 10 bubbles were doubles marked . I am attaching the scanned copy of the OMR.

You can see your self SIERT people first tried to erase the right one but when they saw that bubbles are getting erased they started filling the double bubbles. So Kushal who was supposed to score 143 marks got only 120 marks only.

I am submitting this request exercising my RIGHT TO INFORMATION to provide me following information regarding National Talent Search Examination conducted by NCERT.

1. My daughter Monika Gupta (NTSE Roll No:  13009141) has scored 73 marks in MAT papers of stage 2 as per the information given on your web site. However as per her estimate she should have received more marks than this, therefore I want to know the process of reevaluation of OMR as well as process of checking the OMR myself.
2. She scored 14 marks in the interview, her interview was held at Ajmer on 10 August 09, I would like to look at the score report of the interview panel.

Sub: Complain regarding the NTSE stage 1 result of Rajasthan state declared on 04 and 20 Mar 10


Dear Sir,

SIERT has come out with the revised results on 20 Mar 10. This has put the big question marks on the credibility of how SIERT operates. SIERT in its earlier statements denied of any error in its results, however when faced with the pressure from the parents, SIERT has rechecked the results and declared the result once again.


It the end though it satisfies some of the parents but it still leaves lot of questions still unanswered such as : Why the papers and the answer keys are not provided to students? Why the marks and ranks are not told to students?


I would like your intervention in this matter and ask the SIERT to disclose the marks of all the selected and not selected students and at the same time copy of the mark sheet should be made available for inspection. Till these measures are not taken in its true spirit people will not have confidence in SIERT and NCERT.


We look forward to your intervention in this matter to restore the confidence of the people in the system.

NTSE Battle is still not won

SIERT has come out with revised results and it has satisfied some of us since our wards have been selected however this was never been the objective of this crusade. Personally I was looking forward to more transparency in this issue. At the end though it satisfies some of the parents but it still leaves lot of questions still unanswered such as : Why the papers and the answer keys are not provided to students? Why the marks and ranks are not told to students? Till the time we address fundamental issue here which is transparency, the battle is still not won.

This time we were lucky that SIERT has admitted its blunder since it affected many students just imagine what if SIERT misses two or three OMRs of deserving students and their name are not appeared in the selected list, students will assume that they are not selected, however they will never come to know they have been scapegoat of reckless behavior of SIERT. My experience of dealing with NCERT and KVPY makes me confident enough to say that any thing is possible here.

I would like parents to take initiative and seek information about zerox copy of the mark sheet, paper and answer key to believe on this result. Our collective effort will ensure that SIERT dare not repeat such act in future.

Kota coaching Institutes go in a big way

Kota's coaching institutes take a leaf out of MDP of IIMs, recently Resonance announced its Faculty Training Programme (FTP) for IIT-JEE Coaching. This effort has been to manage the faculty crisis and to serve the growing base of the students. Resonance presently caters to more than 20 location in India and has more than 20,000 student base. Speaking on the occasion Mr Manoj Sharma ( Additional Director) said that FTP helps in building a large bench strength to serve the ever growing IIT- JEE aspirants.

NSO messed up this year

I have come to know that NSO exam conducted by SOF on 19 Nov was totally messed up. I can quote incidents where this exam's crediblity is at stake. Jaipur was closed on this day because of the swine flu, however this examination was conducted at few locations in Jaipur and in the rest of the India. when the school opened up few schools conducted this exam on 23 nov and the same exam paper was administerd to the students and at few location the exam was conducted on 24 Nov too. Looking at this it is understood the SOF Mgmt doesn't have any stand by arrangements to keep the sanctity of such a National Level Examination.
It seems it has become more a money making business with out any seriousness attached. gonig by this way it makes more sense to appear for Govt based exams who are ot very strong in marketing but the crebility is very high such as NTSE, Olympiads condcuted by HBCSE

Reforming Primary Education

This topic is widely discussed in intellectual circle where the importance of primary education has been emphasized again and again and we have seen that the policy makers are not leaving any stone unturned to increase the head count. Government is spending millions to make sure that Govt School have a decent turn up of the students. Whether the efforts have yielded desired results is a debatable issue.

As per some data available to me we are spending 6% of the GDP on primary health care and yet 35 million children drop out from schools every year. Our mid day meal schemes are attracting lot of students who earlier never had an opportunity to access the education. But the standard of the education in Govt. school is deteriorating day by day and this is alarming. Govt schools are very resource full from the physical infrastructure side but very inefficient when it come to execution and innovation. Resources which are used to run the schools are going in drain with out producing the desired results; our policy makers are responsible for such dire strait.

If we remove the incentives schemes (Mid day meals, free education and scholarship and free books) from the Govt. Schools, I am afraid that these schools will have any students left over. It’s more of a compulsion now for policy makers to continue with such freebies, absence of which will collapse the entire Govt. Primary education system in India. Schools have become am epitome of mismanagement.

Any sensible person whatever little he earns if he has an access to Pvt Education he will never his children in Govt schools. Some of you might say that we too have studied in Govt schools and they are not that bad, but we need to look in to things with today’s perspective, today we can’t even think of putting our children in govt schools. Even the bottom part of the pyramid who will be earning as less than as Rs 5000 a month will try to send his children to Pvt schools and will be paying Rs 1000 a month towards the fee.

This all is happening despite putting up the best faculty and paying them the best salaries and perks. We have got the excellent infrastructure with the Govt schools in India and yet the Govt schools produce the worst results. We can leave the JNV and KVs up to some extent out of discussions.

Govt Schools are producing the illiterate citizens who can barely read and write, and with the fraction of the resources, if utilized properly we can do wonders.

There are lots of things which our policy makers can do

1. Public Private Partnership: This has been discussed thoroughly already at various forums and as economics says, let the best survive, so PPP model should be encouraged.

2. Coupon System: Close the govt schools and use the spare resources to subsidize the education in pvt sector.

3. Top down Approach: Here comes my favorite approach, this is surely going to do wonders and if we can implement this even the best of the schools like Doon , Mayo will find it difficult to get the students.

We just need to make it compulsory for majority stake holders (in the govt and education system) that they send their kids to Govt schools only. This means that ministers, top bureaucrats and people working in education sector (Principals, teachers or other officers) will now have to send their kids to govt schools only. Our leaders show austerity by traveling in the cattle class and troubling the Aam Admi, now it is time to send Gandi family kids to Govt School not to the Doon school. People in govt who decides the policy they should test it too, how painful is their execution, the same thing should apply to primary and secondary health care too.

I have been using RTI for obtaining the information from NCERT regarding the NTSE , and i am very happy that NCERT has taken a learning from it, by declaring the marks of the selected and non selected students in the public domain.
However there are still lot of things which NCERT needs to do
1. NCERT should give the papers to students
2. NCERT should ask the states conducting stage 1 examination to do the same

Many Takers for IIT-R except Rajasthan

Times of India : 07-08-09 : As the Rajasthan Government has not been able to decide the final Location for IIT-Rajasthan. Many new states have shown their interest in establishing IIT-R in their states. In a meeting held in Delhi in the last month (July 2009) where the representatives of all new IITs were present except IIT-R. Representatives from Karnataka showed their interest in establishing IIT in their state despite that Karnataka has already got the nod from Ministry of HR for IIT-Bangalore, Similarly representative from Chhattisgarh also showed their keen interest. When representatives of Rajasthan Government were approached who were not present in the meeting, they told that the issue of IIT-R is one of the main concern of Rajasthan Govt. but it is being delayed due to other unwanted isuues like Gurjar Andolan & others. Now these issue are over, the final location will be decided soon & information will be sent to Ministry of HR shortly.

Interview Session 1

Interviewer : Tell us about yourself

Candidate : I belong to Kota and I am a student of class X of Modern School. I am honest, diligent, God-fearing, down to earth by Nature. I am an extrovert and believe in team work. I am very straight forward in my approach and expect the same from others. I am punctual, disciplined and respect the elders. I always look for innovations and learn all the time with everything I come across. I love to face challenges. I am very strong by character. I am very rational at thinking and confident about my work. Besideds academics, I am also a sportsman and I have represented my school in football at national level.

Interviewer : What are your career goals and how do you intend to fulfill them ?

Candidate : I have a burning desire to become an IIT’ian. Apart from that, I also want to become a good human being. I will pursue maths in XI & work hard to get success in IIT’s. I have been brought up with human values and etiquettes. I am confident that I will achieve whatever I desire by my perseverance & hard work.

Interviewer : What do you feel about your academic performance and achievements till date?

Candidate : I am satisfied with my academic performance till date. I have got distinctions in every class and topped the classes most of the time. But I have not taken my success for granted. I am ready for new challenges and want to prove my worth in the coming years.

Interviewer : Which is your favorite subject ? Why ?

Candidate : Mathematics is my forte. It is a very interesting and demanding subject as compared to other subjects. Besides, I don’t have to cram most of the things. It is based on logic and mental toughness and I like challenges.

Interviewer : What is your favourite pass - time OR How do you spend your leisure time / spare time ?

Candidate : Though I don’t get spare time that often but whenever I do get it, I like to enjoy it doing some healthier activities. I play some tough physical games like football, badminton and swimming. I also love to listen to soft music, read knowledgeable books and play chess.I have represented my school in the football team at national level too.

Interviewer : Mention one significant achievement in your life till date. Why do you consider it as an achievement?

Candidate : Selection in N.T.S.E. was my short term target when I appeared in X class. Now after selection, I am proud and satisfied about my achievement. It is an achievement in itself because the exam is conducted all across the country and one has to come winner among the top talents of the country. I am one of those lucky ones and am proud of it.

Interviewer : What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Candidate : Strenghts : I am diligent and confident and a rational thinker. I am trustworthy, faithful and believer in truth and honesty. I love to face challenges thrown upon me and I readily learn from my mistakes.

Weakness : Like all human beings I too have some weaknesses.I am very emotional. I can’t tolerate other’s sorrow. I am stubborn at what I feel is correct. I lose my calm when somebody cheats or misbehaves with me.

Interviewer : Why is NTSE scholarship important for you ?

Candidate : NTSE scholarship is important not only in the sense that it provides financial support in further studies but also proves that you are among the best in country’s talents. The chances of cracking/ fighting any big exams (IIT, M.B.A. etc.) thereafter are very bright for you.It develops confidence to fight all competitive exams.

Interviewer : Who is your idol / role model and why ?

Candidate : My father is my role model. I can think of no one else but him only. I have seen him in all walks of life against all odds. Whether it is personal or professional life, he has lived an ideal life. At work, he was appreciated and promoted for his hard work and integrity. This really boosts me to work in the same manner. He has inculcated human values, good manners, and sound education in me. He has helped me to grow as a person. I owe to him whatever I am today.

Interviewer : Why do you think we should we select you?

Candidate : I deserve to be selected because I am confident that I have given the correct replies to all your questions. I have all the qualities that are essential for an apt candidate and I meet to all your requisites. I keep to all my words whatever I have mentioned to you.

Interviewer : If you were told that you are not suitable for this job, how would you react ?

Candidate : If this situation arises, I shall ask you where I faltered. I would make up for those flaws, learn from my mistakes and come back completely armoured next time. It’s my keen desire to work with you and shall come prepared next time and meet all your needs.

Conclusion

A perfect and an apt candidate. He is confident and knows his subject. Besides academics, he is also good at sports and can bear the burden of hard work. He has complete subject knowledge and he is a keen learner too. Took the lead in the interview and led from the front.He has all the qualities that a candidate should possess.

Candidate lacks confidence in replying to the questions. Though a good-learner and knowledgeable he still needs to boost up his confidence. The candidate did not take the lead in the interview and gave half-heartedly answers. Needs charging up.
